Catching Up

Yeah, I'm still alive on planet Earth. Can't believe it's been almost two months since I last posted. I've still been giving thanks in all circumstances, but we've been so busy and I've been so, so tired. I think it's time for a check up at the doctors to see where all of my body levels are. It's been 2 years since I've had a check up. I don't believe in getting them every year. I feel that your body will tell you when something's wrong and you need to go to the doc's. I've always had low blood pressure and low iron which doesn't help when you need energy, energy, energy. Plus, I've noticed changes since I've entered into my 40s. Why is that a magic age? You enter 40 and all of a sudden you can really notice outside and inside physical changes happening to your body. Those of you who know what I'm talking about can relate to the having a harder time losing weight, lack of energy, and what is with the rapid growth of facial hair? I have to pluck my eyebrows a lot more often and it seems like I keep getting more of a mustache than I'd like. What is with that!?!? I also lapsed on taking my vitamins for a couple of weeks and so I know that has not helped with my energy. I need to get back on a daily regiment with that.

I know there have been times I wanted to post things on here but didn't get around to it, and I also know that I have forgotten what some of those things are as I am this instant on the computer typing away. I do remember one of the things was about the recent History Channel's Bible mini series that was five Sundays long with the last episode airing Easter night. I'm sorry, but I had some problems with it. I'm not going to scrutinize everything I found wrong with it, but when the first thing you read on the TV screen before the show starts is that the makers of the film wanted to portray "the spirit of the Bible," that tells you that it's not necessarily "the facts" of the Bible. Why can't Hollywood just make a film that is exactly like the book they are trying to recreate on screen--especially the Bible? I mean, a lot of parts were accurate, but others were tweaked or taken out of context. And why were certain stories chosen and not others? And why all the violence? I am so glad that I decided to record the shows and watch them first before just automatically letting my kids watch them with me. I will definitely not show this to my 8 year old, but my 11 year old could handle it, even though I kind of cringe letting him do that. There were times I even didn't want to watch parts. Then I tried putting myself in the shoes of someone who might not be a believer and asked myself if I could follow along with what was going on, and sometimes yes, but other times no. Some people's stories moved so fast that I felt that they wouldn't make sense to someone who didn't have the background knowledge already of these stories. Was that Hollywood's motive--to try to make people curious so they would go get their hands on the Bible and dig deeper into these stories. The skeptic in me thinks "not really" because what came out after the TV show? A novel based on the TV mini series. Come on! Now, don't comment angry messages to me because this is all my opinion. And if you're a stranger who posts something mean on here in the comments, I will delete it--just giving you fair warning. If you seriously want to debate me about this, I would encourage you to dig into the actual BIBLE to find the truth and quit looking to Hollywood and novelists to fill your minds about God and Jesus.

The second thing I wanted to write about was Easter. It is one of my favorite celebrations. I love it more than Christmas. To me, Christmas is too commercialized and is a tradition that just doesn't celebrate Jesus at all. I love to make a Happy Birthday cake for Jesus, and I do love the trees, lights, baked goods, and decorations, but how does any of that go back to the Bible? To me it really doesn't. So when I enjoy all of the secular aspects of Christmas, I am enjoying the secular aspects--not trying to find a way to tie them into the birth of Christ when they have nothing to do with that. But, Easter is all about Jesus. Yes, we have the bunny and eggs, but my kids do know that Easter is really about Jesus dieing on that cross and being raised from the dead. The cross part is gruesome, but oh the raising from the dead part is GLORIOUS and that is what we celebrate. If that part had not happened then nothing else that Jesus did or said would be true. But because he came out of that tomb, then we know that everything about Him was and is truth! What could be more grand? And I love to treat it as a special occasion and get nicely dressed up--but that's just me. Not everybody wants to do that or can do that. Doesn't make them any different than me. We all come to celebrate and what we look like doesn't make a lick of difference if we are there to celebrate, praise, and glorify God and Jesus for what they did for us. Here are some pics from Easter morning.
